Jade from China

Two types of jade gemstones are used in jade jewelry: Nephrite and Jadeite

Nephrite consists of a microcrystalline interlocking fibrous matrix of the calcium, magnesium-iron rich amphibole minerals and tremolite (calcium-magnesium)-ferroactinolite (calcium-magnesium-iron). The higher the iron content the greener the color.

Jadeite is a sodium-aluminum rich pyroxene mineral. The gem form is a microcrystalline interlocking crystal matrix.

We have several pieces of light green and white jade from China purchased in the 1970s. Very high quality and translucent.
